Benesse is a Japanese company providing educational services. The company operates through five segments. Domestic Education Japan provides educational services and materials for all people, including correspondence courses, school and teacher support and preparatory courses. Nursing Care and Childcare includes nursing homes for seniors (330 facilities), food delivery and daycare for children (60 centers), all based in Japan.
Global Kodomo Challenge provides early childhood education, mainly in Japan but also in China, Indonesia and Taiwan. Berlitz provides language studies in more than 70 countries.
The fifth segment offers magazines related to parenting, living, and pets.
The company was founded in 1955 as Fukutake Publishing. In the 1990s, the company's name was changed to Benesse.
Benesse provides a broad range of products and services that support the development of people of all ages, as well as improving their quality of life. Around 60% of sales are related with education, from mandatory curriculum to schools, exam tests and correspondence courses for all education levels (from preschool to senior high school and working adults), to early childhood education materials. Nearly 30% of sales derive from nursing homes operated throughout Japan and senior day care, as well as daycare services for children that contribute both to their early development and to the inclusion of women in the workforce and more productive employees.
