Founded in 1925, Croda manufactures specialty chemical ingredients. The company operates in four segments: Personal Care (ingredients for cosmetic products focused on skin and hair care); Life Sciences (products for crop protection, seed enhancements and pharmaceuticals), Performance Technologies (coatings and lubricants for a.o. automotive) and Industrial Chemicals (niche industrial applications). Its ingredients enable the creation of high quality products with sustainability advantages over similar, petrol-chemical ingredients. As a result, it sells its products globally to a wide range of customers.
Many of the products that we use in our daily lives contain chemicals. Most of them are derived from oil. Croda is, however, focused on producing the best sustainable ingredients while limiting its environmental burden on the planet. This is due to its specialization in oleo chemistry: transformation of vegetable, animal and petrochemical oils and fats into ingredients for a wide variety of applications, such as soaps, food, feed, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and industrial products. As a result, and in contrast to regular chemical companies, a high proportion of the company's inputs is bio-based. Croda can therefore be seen as an enabler for sustainability.
Croda also develops products with a clear positive impact. Supplying excipients - which make sure the active ingredients of a medicine can be incorporated in various forms (eg tablets) and in doing so, improve the effectiveness of a vaccine - to the pharmaceutical industry, the company also contributes to our Prosperous and Healthy People theme. Similarly, by improving the yields of crops (in a sustainable way), Croda's crop protection and seed enhancement business contributes to the Sustainable Food and Agriculture theme.
