S-Pool is a Japanese company that provides outsourcing services, including temporary staffing and contract work. The company focuses on serving demographic groups for which it is challenging to find employment opportunities such as young people, housewives, single mothers, seniors, and people with physical, intellectual, or mental disabilities. S-Pool operates through two segments: Human Resources Solutions (69% of revenues in FY2021) and Business Solutions (31% of revenues). The company was founded in 1999 and went public in February 2006.

Investment rationale

In any society there are always demographics for which it is more challenging to find employment opportunities due to a variety of reasons such as lack of experience (young people), limited time availability (housewives and single mothers), reduced physical vitality (seniors) or the presence of disabilities (physical, intellectual or mental health). Under Japan’s ‘Universal Employment’ initiative, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Labour (MHWL) encourages the employment of people from these demographic groups. S-Pool provides outsourcing services and temporary staffing mostly for those under-served cohorts identified as per the Universal Employment initiative, thereby tapping those so far untapped human resources.

By offering temporary staffing and recruitment services to demographics that find it challenging to find employment opportunities, S-Pool enables those individuals to actively participate in their society and develop themselves. This aligns with our Social Inclusion & Empowerment theme."
