In 2014, we started a dialogue with Carrefour about their animal welfare policy and practices within the context of a wider engagement project on farm animal welfare.
Over the years, the company has developed several programmes and initiatives to improve animal welfare and has increased its range of products that meet higher animal welfare standards. In addition, the company now tracks animal welfare information in their supply chain.
However, Carrefour had not yet developed a more comprehensive and formalised animal welfare policy. In 2017, the company stated that it aims to develop a group-wide animal welfare policy. We will continue to engage with Carrefour on this subject and will assess the animal welfare policy in detail once it becomes available.
