The Iwell energy storage system has a power capacity of around 7 MW and an energy output of around 14,000 kWh. Utilisation of the battery could reduce up to 2,600 tonnes of CO2 emission per annum compared to the CO2 emission from a gas plant. This can be compared to the electricity consumption of around 2,000 households in the Netherlands.

Vincent van Haarlem, Fund Manager of Triodos Energy Transition Europe Fund: “With the financing of several other utility scale batteries in the past, the fund has gained knowledge and experience in a sector that is vital to the energy transition. We are excited about the addition of this investment to the fund, as it shows the fund’s commitment and contribution to the Dutch energy transition.”

The construction phase of this project will start around mid of the year and is expected to be operational after the summer of 2022.
