Whereas most investment frameworks and financial decision making processes do not consider children as a distinct group, the child-lens framework does. Child-lens investing is a new approach that recognises children as key stakeolders in financial decision-making and ensures their rights and wellbeing are actively considered.
An important aspect of children's wellbeing is their online safety, a topic much discussed by parents and providers alike. Both Goodwin and Rozing acknowledge that telecom companies play an important and positive role, especially in emerging markets, providing connectivity for example for online education, but also financial services. But they also see the dangers of the online world for children. It is for this reason that Global Child Forum together with telecom companies and investors has developed the Listen Up! project, aiming to directly connect the digital industry with young people, ensuring their needs, their concerns and their ideas help guiding the creation of safer and healthier online environments.
Key topics of this podcast include:
- What role do telecom companies play in the online safety of children
- How can the Listen Up! initiative help here
- What can investors do to foster online safety
As Matt Goodwin notes, “Children are a stakeholder group for pretty much every business out there, so businesses should be thinking about them as such and should be listening to them.”
