More than trade
Cooperativa Agraria Norandino (Norandino) has grown into one of Peru’s leading farmer cooperatives. Its members are part of a broad network across rural communities, linking certified organic and Fairtrade harvests with buyers around the world. But Norandino’s role goes beyond trade. The cooperative helps farmers meet strict standards for certified, traceable production and prepare for new requirements for deforestation-free exports.
This matters more than ever. International demand for agricultural products that can be traced back to responsible sources is increasing. Norandino is well placed to meet that demand. It already works with certified farmers, has processing facilities in place and has shown that it can meet sustainability requirements, including EUDR compliance and climate-smart practices. Farmers also receive training in organic farming, agroforestry and soil and nutrient management.
For farmers, this not abstract. It means healthier soil, better prices, clearer access to markets and stronger prospects for the future. It also also supports rural development in places where opportunities are often limited.
Finance that meets seasonal need
To keep this work going during the 2026/2027 season, Norandino needs extra working capital at the right time of year. Finance from Hivos-Triodos Fonds is set up to match that seasonal need. It helps the cooperative source, process and export more of what its members produce. Just as importantly, it enables Norandino to pay their members on time, so they are not left waiting during crucial months.
The Hivos-Triodos Fonds facility follows Norandino’s seasonal cash flow cycle. This gives the structure a practical fit with the cooperative’s business model.
Behind the financial terms is a simple idea: when a cooperative like Norandino has the means to act at the right time, smallholder farmers are in a stronger position too. And when those farmers can rely on fair and timely payment, whole rural communities are better able to move forwards.
