Gender equality

Through its ‘Protagonistas’ program, Grupo Promerica and Banco Promerica Costa Rica promote gender equality. Banco Promerica Costa Rica launched its first gender strategy in 2020, aligned with the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles. Meanwhile, it has progressed from beginner to leader reaching 75% in the WEP´s auto-evaluation. Today, close to thirty percent of SMEs in the bank’s portfolio are led by women.

Banco Promerica Costa Rica has developed a suite of sustainable products for both individuals and businesses, supported by a dedicated sustainability and green finance team. The bank was also the first in Central America to issue a sustainable bond and the first commercial bank in Latin America to be accredited before the Green Climate Fund.

Finance by Triodos Investment Management

The senior debt facility is provided by Triodos Microfinance Fund and Triodos Fair Share Fund. This new facility builds on a long-standing relationship between Triodos Investment Management and Grupo Promerica and underlines our shared commitment to advancing a more inclusive and sustainable financial sector in the region. The loan enables the bank to further grow in green, gender-lens and SME lending, while supporting its ongoing digital transformation.
