Fondaction and Triodos Bank are sending a clear signal that natural capital is becoming an investable asset class. Value Nature Fund, developed jointly by Fondaction Asset Management and Triodos Investment Management, provides a concrete example: a natural capital investment strategy designed to unlock institutional capital for the restoration of farms, forests and the ecosystems they depend on.

For every dollar invested in protecting nature, USD 30 is spent on activities that degrade it, according to UNEP’s State of Finance for Nature 2026 report. Yet, restoring natural capital can strengthen the long-term resilience and productive capacity of farms and forests by improving the health of the ecosystems they depend on. Closing this gap requires moving beyond commitments and scaling nature-positive investment solutions. Value Nature Fund offers a concrete response by mobilising institutional capital toward the restoration of farms and forests while generating long-term value for investors, biodiversity, climate and communities.

Value Nature Fund is targeting EUR 300 million (USD 337 million) and intends to invest in farms and forests across Europe and North America, transitioning them toward regenerative and resilient practices.

Making nature investable at scale

Sustainable agriculture and forestry investment opportunities remain fragmented, limiting institutional investors’ ability to deploy capital at scale. Value Nature Fund seeks to address this gap by building a diversified natural capital investment strategy backed by real assets.

The fund brings together the complementary expertise of Fondaction Asset Management and Triodos Investment Management to demonstrate that investing in the restoration of natural capital can support biodiversity and climate objectives while creating long-term value for investors.

Stéphan Morency, President and Chief Executive Officer of Fondaction: “The challenge is no longer simply to recognise the value of nature. We need to create financial solutions that allow capital to actively contribute to its restoration. Together with Triodos Bank, we are turning our shared conviction into action, bringing complementary expertise from both sides of the Atlantic to help make natural capital accessible at institutional scale.”

Hadewych Kuiper, Managing Director Triodos Investment Management: “The urgency of addressing biodiversity loss and climate change continues to grow. Value Nature Fund demonstrates the power of collaboration: combining our expertise with Fondaction’s enables us to mobilise institutional capital to restore farms, forests and the ecosystems our economies depend on. Together, we aim to finance change and change finance by making natural capital investable at scale.”

From global ambition to action

The approach behind Value Nature Fund aligns with the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to better integrate biodiversity into financial decision-making and mobilise significantly more resources for nature.

Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary, Convention on Biological Diversity: “Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity calls for mobilising financial resources from all sources. As highlighted in the Global Report, significant gaps remain, including private finance. I hope Value Nature Fund will help demonstrate how clarity and confidence in potential financial returns can be achieved, addressing one of the key barriers to unlocking and scaling up investment in nature.”

Mr. Robert Abisoghomonyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia: “Public resources remain essential, but they cannot meet the financing needs of biodiversity protection and restoration on their own. We need to expand the role of private investment, integrate nature-related risks and opportunities into financial decision-making, and develop credible mechanisms that support measurable and lasting outcomes. I congratulate Fondaction and Triodos for making Value Nature Fund a concrete example of alignment between finance and biodiversity action.”

Value Nature Fund has received commitments from Fondaction and Triodos Bank to the amount of CAD 25 million and EUR 5 million (USD 5.6 million) respectively as founding investors in Value Nature Fund, conditional upon reaching a first close. The initiative builds on both organisations’ experience in impact investing and reflects a shared ambition: to move beyond measuring nature-related risks and start mobilising capital at the scale needed to restore natural systems.
