Investment rationale
The construction and maintenance of all types of vehicles and built infrastructure have a large environmental footprint on the planet. To reduce this footprint, it is therefore important that these materials last longer and increase their energy efficiency in the construction and use phase. The coatings and paints of AkzoNobel contribute to reducing this footprint, as the use of coatings protect vehicles and building materials from corrosion, making them last longer and thereby saving resources. Coatings can also improve energy efficiency of vehicles as they are better streamlined with the coating.
At the same time, AkzoNobel is making a strong effort to reduce the environmental footprint of its products. Its goal is to reduce their impact on the planet and has therefore set targets for 2030 to reduce carbon emissions in the whole value chain by 50% versus 2018, to move towards zero waste, to use 100% renewable electricity and to re-use 100% of its water. AkzoNobel is also innovating to use more sustainable raw materials, by using bio-based materials or recycled materials. It has, for example, developed a paint consisting for 35% of paint waste streams.
