Living in Harlingen, the Netherlands, starts with De Bouwvereniging. With about 2500 homes, it is the largest provider of social housing in the municipality of Harlingen. The spearheads of the organization are affordability of rent and making the existing housing stock more sustainable. Homes are made more sustainable at a favorable price, for example with solar panels or gasless solutions. Triodos Bank has financed the first gasless housing project for De Bouwvereniging. This concerns 38 zero-on-the-meter homes in the Oosterparkwijk in Harlingen.
