De Oude Streek (Dutch for The Old Region) in the Netherlands is Hanneke Kuppens' small-scale organic goat farm and cheese dairy. In 1988, Hanneke started her own goat farm in the municipality of Zevenhuizen, in the province of Groningen, with 21 goats. De Oude Streek now has fourty dairy goats, six young goats and two billy goats. Hanneke made a conscious choice for a small-scale operation, which in 2002 earned her the certificate “Animal-Friendly Farmer's Wife” from Stichting Lekker Dier. The most delicious cheese specialties, such as the blue cheese Machedoux, are made from the goat's milk in a traditional way.
