DSM merged with Firmenich in early May 2023, creating a global leader in flavours and fragrances, animal nutrition and key ingredients for a range of human health products (such as vitamins, supplements and infant milk formula). DSM-Firmenich has communicated its intention to exit the Animal Nutrition & Health (ANH) division in 2025, which would leave the company as a consumer end-markets pure play with three divisions; Perfumery & Beauty (P&B), Taste, Texture & Health (TTH) and Health, Nutrition & Care (HNC). The company has two head offices: one in the Netherlands and one in Switzerland.

Investment rationale

DSM-Firmenich drives positive impact in the food and wellbeing transitions through its key business segments.

The Taste, Texture, and Health (TTH) segment directly supports Triodos’ Food transition theme. The TTH segment focuses on developing sustainable, nutritious, and appealing food and beverage products. Through its Taste division, TTH provides flavours, natural extracts, and sugar reduction solutions, while its Ingredient Solutions division offers essential components like food enzymes, cultures, proteins, and natural colorants. Working directly with customers, TTH develops products such as low-sugar beverages, dairy with improved texture, and plant-based meat alternatives, helping to address global dietary needs and reduce food waste.

The Health, Nutrition, and Care (HNC) segment contributes to the Wellbeing transition. The HNC segment supports global health by providing nutritional and care solutions across early-life nutrition, dietary supplements, pharmaceuticals, and biomedical materials. HNC’s portfolio includes vitamins, minerals, probiotics, HMOs, APIs, and biomedical products. Through its i-Health platform, it addresses specific wellness needs, while offering affordable nutrition solutions for vulnerable populations.
