Enphase Energy is a global energy technology company and a leading supplier of solar micro-inverters. The company was founded in 2006 and delivers smart, easy-to-use solutions that connect solar generation, storage and management on one intelligent platform. Its semiconductor-based micro-inverter system converts energy at the individual solar module level and brings a system-based high-technology approach to solar energy generation, storage, control and management.

Investment rationale

Producing inverters for solar panels, the company plays a vital role in the energy transition. Inverters convert the variable direct current (DC) output of a solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current (AC) that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network. Inverters strengthen the efficiency of solar panels, and therefore contribute to the increased use of renewable energy and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

Enphase's micro-inverters allow each panel to produce energy independently. This results in higher efficiency as less sun is needed to produce more solar energy, and it reduces the need to cut trees to remove shading. In addition, their system collects performance data on solar panel efficiency and provides cloud-based energy management.

The company is also active in energy storage. Storage will become an integral part of the solar business. Offering more holistic and smarter solutions, i.e. solar-plus-storage, has allowed Enphase to transform into a one-stop-shop for solar systems.
