Aligned with SDGs

Triodos invests in sovereign bonds from EU member states and the UK. We only select only those countries that have no involvement in international sanctions, and that have signed and ratified international conventions on controversial weapons, human rights, labour rights, and the environment. This includes the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions (e.g. on child labour, and forced labour), the international convention on civil and political rights, the biological and chemical weapon conventions, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons treaty, the Paris Climate Agreement, and the convention on biological diversity, amongst others.

Investment rationale

In 2018, Ireland opened a sovereign green bond market segment with an issuance of EUR 3 billion. An allocation report is published on a yearly basis, whereas an impact report is available every two years. By the end of 2020, EUR 2.4 billion had been allocated to eligible green categories.

The capital is allocated across the six eligible green categories set out in the Irish Sovereign Green Bond Framework: 1. Built Environment/Energy Efficiency, 2. Clean Transportation, 3. Climate Change Adaptation, 4. Environmentally Sustainable Management of Living Natural Resources and Land Use, 5. Renewable Energy, 6. Sustainable Water and Wastewater Management.
