This community initiative of the village of Vledder brings together residents of Vledder and the surrounding area who are willing to invest EUR 850,000 in the construction of a sustainable, gas-free and energy-efficient residential care building. The building consists of 16 rental apartments and 16 owner-occupied apartments with care facilities. Stichting Onderdak (Dutch for ‘shelter’) Vledder owns the rental part and makes the apartments primarily available to residents who are care-dependent (care-level 4 and higher). It also offers short-term lodging options for inhabitants who temporarily need extra help. In this way, the building fills the void that villagers have identified in the existing social and care infrastructure of their community, preventing people having to move elsewhere to receive the care they need.
