Aligned with SDGs

Vidrala is a Spanish glass container manufacturer, established in 1965. The company makes bottles for food and beverages products and offer a wide range of packaging services that include logistic solutions and beverages filling activities.

Vidrala is one of Western Europe’s top 5 glass container manufacturers, operating in 5 countries through 8 sites (Spain, Portugal, Italy, England and Northern Ireland). The company has been listed on the Bolsa de Madrid since 1985.

Investment rationale

Glass is a prime example of recyclability. Glass and the circular economy therefore go hand in hand, which should promote the use of glass as a packaging substrate in the current movement against single use products. Increased national and European focus on recycling could increase the current (high) collection rate of old glass, which in turn would increase efficiency of manufacturing (lower energy required to re-melt and fewer pollutants given off).

Vidrala plays well to current ESG themes from an end customer perspective, and stands to be a potential beneficiary of the War on Plastic Waste. Each tonne of recycled glass saves 670kg in CO2 emissions and the consumption of 1.2 tonnes of raw materials. Furthermore, air pollution and water pollution are reduced by respectively 20% and 50% by recycling broken/waste glass.

In total, 49% of revenues is aligned with the Resource Transition. The contribution to the Resource Transition comes from 49% of revenues related to the impact objective Circular Economy.
