Since the summer of 2014, a sustainable student flat with 70 studios and 39 rooms has been opened in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. The building has, among other things, an energy roof on which water is heated for showering. In addition, the building is equipped with heat and cold storage and there are vacuum toilets that flush with less water.
With this project, students are made aware of their energy consumption. All homes are equipped with meters. The big advantage for the students: with the special app that has been developed for the residents, the students have insight into their energy consumption. And the less energy the students lose, the lower their energy bills.
